Kirk Cameron's Unstoppable & Noah

While watching the Kirk Cameron documentary film "Unstoppable" last night, it was fascinating to see him play out what it would be like to try to get the film industry to do a movie about Noah.

In the film, the executive producer types gave all kinds of alternate themes and stories that did not fit the facts of the historical Biblical account.  Kirk was sticking to the Biblical text and theme about God's judgment of the sinful world as well as the details.  That doesn't go over big in Hollywood.

I don't know whether Kirk knew about the 'atheist" produced "Noah"
movie that was going to be coming out this year, but it amazed me the timing and accuracy with which he demonstrated what Hollywood producers would want to do with any movie about Noah.

All of mankind was wicked during Noah's time, and God justly flooded the earth.  He saved just Noah and his family, because Noah believed God. The flood is a picture of future judgment of the world and the ark the salvation of those He has chosen to have faith.  There will not be another flood, but judgment will come again with fire next time. (2 Peter 3:7)

I found a John MacArthur message that gives details about Noah & the flood.
The Power of Divine Judgment in the Global Flood

For the full Biblical account of the true historical Noah and the flood, you can read it at the following link.

Criticism, Sovereignty, Who Rules Hell & Heaven

3 Tips for Responding to Criticism - This is a very challenging article to me, because I know I don't handle criticism well.

Missions, Evangelism & The Sovereignty of God by Kevin DeYoung - Some people wonder how those of us who believe in God's sovereign choice can advocate evangelism.  This blog post responds to that objection.

Who Rules in Hell? - Sye Ten Bruggencate has a way of expressing things in such a way as to make you take a step back & think.  I agree with him on what he says on this video, but I admit I don't often think about who rules in it can be slightly startling to be reminded of the answer.

HEAVEN - While I fully believe it is important to warn against Hell & that many people at times talk only about what God can do for them when they try to talk to people instead of the seriousness of sin & the justice of God,  I was reminded recently that in correcting the error of easy believism, that we may sometimes seem to tip the balance the other way.  God's wrath against sin is real & hell is real, but for those who repent & believe God's love & mercy & forgiveness are in abundance & they will spend eternity in Heaven with a Father who loves them.
The following link is to share what Heaven will be like for those who belong to the Lord.

Cover-Ups & Cases of Disappearing Planes & People

People love mysteries.  Some people are driven crazy if they are not solved, and others prefer that they never be solved (being left to the imagination).  Those personally involved have an entirely different perspective.

What happened to the Malaysian flight that was headed for China?
What is it that Lois Lerner is hiding?
What has happened to kidnapped missionaries overseas?

We think of questions like: Has there been foul play & what would we do in these situations?
How can we find out the answers?
In some cases we are left wondering whether people have survived or who is being protected from shame or justice.
We may never know all of the answers here on earth.

In the case of the Malaysian flight, a person wonders why people were not able to use their cell phones unless something was so sudden or indeed there truly was someone or more than one person keeping them from answering them.  Did the plane truly drop from radar, and did it go on for hundreds of miles?  Is it truly in the ocean, or could it have landed somewhere without being spotted?  Did someone truly see it go down?

In the Lois Lerner case, it seems that she is certainly hiding misconduct whether it is strictly just her own or other people above her.  Will we ever learn the full truth through testimony on whether someone else played a role?

Missing missionaries in a country I shall not name:  Whatever became of them?  I am still left wondering.  I realize they are not the only people to have disappeared and to have been held hostage.  Are they still alive?

What would we do if we were targeted or in danger of life or freedom?
The people on the plane did not know what would happen that day.
Were they ready to die, if they are indeed dead?
Check out the link below to see if you would be ready:

Sail On - Focusing On Christ & Heaven

I grew up listening to a lot of Christian music.
My Dad worked at a radio station at one time & also had a program where music was played along with a Christian message by a friend.  So, even in the following years, my family still listened to a lot of Christian music.  We have matured in theological views and what lyrics we prefer, but we still enjoy the old tunes!

One day not so long ago I heard a song coming from the other room that it seemed like I hadn't heard in years!  It's an old song by the Imperials that has a very catchy tune reminding Christians of God's sovereignty & our eternal home.

I hope you will enjoy this "oldie but goodie."

Shepherds Conference 2014 Links & Thoughts

For those who look at my website & are wondering about the Shepherds Conference from Grace Community Church - you can live stream the General Sessions from the following link:
They have translations for Russian, Spanish, Mandarin, Portuguese & Korean.

On March 6 at 7 PM PT / 10 PM ET / 3 AM GMT  Al Mohler is scheduled to speak.

You can check out Friday's schedule as well:

After the conference, all the messages from this year should be up on the Media link at some point I imagine.

John MacArthur's message on fellowship was excellent, although being disabled it's hard for me not to be isolated outside of family & the internet.  A lot of people do not have that excuse though.   I am the type who really wants to be able to go to church.

On the Q & A session, I would have been more dogmatic on my views about some of the issues.
I think that Todd Friel should have asked even more directly if it would be a sin to take a special order for a cake for a homosexual wedding as a Christian rather than to bake a cake for one.  Certainly a special order cake would be participating in the celebration.
Ephesians 5:7-12

Likewise, a special order for any pagan holiday or immoral behavior or relationship would be participating in sin.
I would have also said that designing or building a building that you know is meant for pagan worship or debauchery is participating in the sin.

Aside from my strong beliefs on those issues, there was a lot that I believe was good that was said!
The panel all answered that smoking pot (not to do with medicinal marijuana) is a sin.   Other things were addressed, but I don't remember them all!

My friend Tony Miano was even mentioned in regards to being jailed for speaking out about homosexual sin & having a jail ministry.  Tony, of course addressed all kinds of sexual immorality in the U.K.

Although this was a conference for pastors and I am not a pastor or qualified to be one,  I still enjoyed having the opportunity to "eavesdrop" on this notable event.

Duck Dynasty, Doubting Christians, Right Thinking

Singling Out Homosexuality

Remember the Duck Dynasty furor about Phil Robertson's comments on homosexuality?  Why is it that many Christians are becoming afraid to single out one sin to address?  I'm personally not a fan of Duck Dynasty.  I found when I tried it out to be a bit crude and silly & not 100% trustworthy with language.  I realize I may be stepping on toes, and I have learned to tolerate a little of the so-called "redneck" mentality from watching Rick & Bubba at times.  That being said, I found what Phil was reported to have said on homosexuality to be Biblical and nothing to be ashamed of.  I'm hopeful these guys on Duck Dynasty are truly Christians, and the hysteria the media made over it reminds me of Tony Miano's arrests in England & Scotland for speaking on sexual sins which is where this country is heading.

Diagnosing Doubts

If you are a Christian & struggle with having doubts, I read an interesting article that has 8 reasons why Christians doubt.  Now I would disagree slightly in that the Bible teaches that everybody knows God exists, but people do get confused in their understanding of God by arguments that are falsely called knowledge.  Apologetics that do not have God as the foundation can be seriously problematic. Eight Diagnostic Questions I Ask of those Who Are Doubting their Faith by C. Michael Patton

Conviction in a World of Compromise

Recently my family has been reading / listening to a book entitled Right Thinking In A World Gone Wrong by John MacArthur & other pastors / staff from Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, CA.
While we skipped over bits of it, I really thought the parts on entertainment, games, & celebrity idolization both interesting and convicting.  No, it doesn't mean avoiding all entertainment, but certainly it was a good reminder of how far we've slipped in compromising and what should be the focus of much of our time.
